Where the injury bugs bite…

Second Workout With Hibbert Tomorrow

It’s been almost a week since their last workouts, but the Jazz are finally getting more players in. They hosted a couple of players today (2nd-rounders at best), and host a couple more tomorrow (1st-rounders included).

The workout today features a couple of “who’s that?” guys and 1 in-state guy…

SG Jaycee Carroll, Utah State
PF Joseph Jones, Texas A&M
SF Juan Palacios, Louisville
PF Walter Sharpe, UAB
PG Jason Richards, Davidson

All are 2nd round prospects at best… it was probably just a in-state prospect thing. Carroll projects over as a SG with a nice touch… unfortunately he’s only 6′2. Perfect for Jerry Sloan, but not ideal in the league.

As for tomorrow’s workout

C Roy Hibbert, Georgetown
F/C Alexis Ajinca, France
F/C Serge Ibaka, Congo
C Longar Longar, Oklahoma
PG Sean Singletary, Virginia
G Kyle Weaver, Washington State

Hibbert has already been in before. Ajinca & Ibaka are first-round prospects, Longar & Singletary not so much. Weaver could go late first. A breakdown of Hibbert by Tim Buckley of the Deseret News, with pros & cons from a “variety of sources”. To note…

Says shot-blocking, which is a huge Jazz interior-defense need, is not exactly his forte

Oh, also, just an FYI…

compared by nbadraft.net to Joel Przybilla (whom the Jazz always have liked)

I didn’t know that… did you? Maybe they should trade someone (I can think of 3 guys) for him, and then draft a guard in the first round.

If the team is looking for a point-guard in the first round, there are a couple of options. The Cowhide Globe likes Mario Chalmers. Weaver would be a nice addition (and can play either spot). Singletary’s on the short end (below 6 feet), which could have an impact on his draft position.

My list of potential fits includes, amongst others… Weaver, Singletary, Longar & Hibbert. Just saying.
Oh, and it seems that Ryan Anderson canceled his workout with the Jazz so that he could sit with his family and decide as to whether or not he should stay in the draft. That’s unfortunate… hopefully the Jazz will still take him despite that (I don’t see why it should affect their decision too much). It’s not like he refused to come to Utah.
The draft is rapidly approaching. Will the Jazz make a move? Or will they just stand pat and have pretty much the same team next year? Standing pat probably won’t push the team to the top. (Wow… did I just agree with Gordon Monson again?)
So… who should the Jazz take?
