RMR Day 1 Thoughts   2 comments

  • Missed the Hawks-Mavs game (didn’t know they have a “watch live” option on the website). Oops. It seems like it was a good game too.
  • “Watched” most of the Jazz-Spurs game. Watched in the sense that it was on the TV (yay for KJZZ). I really only had the TV on for the 1st 3 quarters. And my time was spent more following the Pirates game online and hating on the Jazz brass for the CJ Miles era (which is probably over now). Because, you know… the NBA is turning to crap.
  • The officials are horrible. They seem to have this idea that the more often you blow your whistles, the more likely you are to make it to the NBA. I mean, if they had had their way, everyone would’ve fouled out in the first quarter. Including the fans & coaches. Now we know why they have a higher limit on the number of fouls you can commit. It’s a fu**ing summer league game. Let them play. God, you can’t even watch this stuff. Watching paint dry has got to be more exciting.
  • The Jazz were horrific (save the 2nd quarter… where they only seemed good because the Spurs were worse). I don’t have exact numbers (the box-score PDF for the game has some error… fix it!), but the recap states that the Jazz shot 29.8% from the field. Ouch.
  • These guys would be great on the Jazz. I mean, they follow J-Slow’s defensive idea so well. You know, the “leave the middle open, and if someone drives in, foul them” scheme that has made Booze so popular with Jazz fans.

RMR Players You Know… The Spurs   1 comment

Part 7 of 8, as we hit the San Antonio Spurs! Many people complain that the NBA team is slow and boring, but this isn’t that team. Unfortunately though, they don’t have as many names to recognize (unless you’re a Spurs fan) as the other teams. But that’s alright… there always has to be a team to root against, no? Why not pick the team running out a bunch of guys you’ve never heard of?

RMR Players You Know… The Nets   Leave a comment

Well, after the slight detour to the Iranian National Team, it’s back to the NBA and the New Jersey Nets! They have quite a few guys that you should know (I mean… I know them). Six first-rounders by my count. Another guy or 2 that were considered first-rounders but ended up slipping. A “local” guy (from Utah State, in other words). Yeah… know these Nets, you do.

RMR Players You Know… The Iranian National Team   1 comment

Sorry, I’m clueless here. I don’t pay any attention at all to the World Championship or anything, so I have no idea about any of the players on the team. And I can’t tell you much more, because the roster listed only has position… no height or anything. But still, we’ll give you the players. Friends, the Iranian National Team!

RMR Players You Know… The Warriors   3 comments

Part 4 of the series. Part 1, Part 2 & Part 3 are linked to there. This time around, we look at the Golden State Warriors, a team with quite a few guys to know & keep an eye on. Included are an ex-Jazzster, a guy with the same first “name” as a current(?) Jazz-ster, a summer league phenom (or 2) and a guy from a love-it/hate-it college.

RMR Players You Know… The Ambassadors   1 comment

Time for part 3 of the set (Part 1 here, Part 2 here). Up this time… the D-League Ambassadors! This is only slightly confusing… shouldn’t the best NBDL players be in a NBA camp right now? I guess it’s the best of the rest… there aren’t many known guys here.

RMR Players You Know… The Mavericks   1 comment

Continuing the look at players that could be playing at the RMR that you might know (aka… I know) (the look at the Hawks is here), we move on to the 2nd of the 8 teams… the Dallas Mavericks! Like the Hawks, no first round pick to draw in a couple extra fans here and there. Not that it really matters… there’s plenty of guys you’ve (…I’ve…) heard of as it is.

RMR Players You Know… The Hawks   3 comments

With the RMR just around the corner, it’s time to look at some of the players playing that you just might know the names of. (Note: That means I’m only listing players that I’ve heard of.) We’ll start with the first of the 8 teams (alphabetically)… the Atlanta Hawks!

Jazz Release RMR Roster   2 comments

Well, it’s that time of year. The Rocky Mountain Review is just around the corner, and the Jazz have released their 17-man squad for the games.

The “known” names are the young Jazz-sters (Morris Almond, Kyrylo Fesenko and Kosta Koufos), 2 NBDL players from the Flash that the team will keep if they return to the NBDL (Kevin Kruger & Brian Jackson), ex-Ute Britton Johnson, former Jazz RMR-ers (Kevin Lyde & Hiram Fuller) and ex-Clipper Yaroslav Korolev (played in Russia last year).

I don’t recognize the other guys on the team.

The one notable absence… CJ Miles. Unfortunately, he seems to have picked potential contract over actually playing. I guess this could be the end for CJ in a Jazz uniform, because J-Slow really isn’t going to like this. Of course, he has to find a team willing to give him a contract first (Siler says he might’ve met with the Clay Bennett Backstabbers.

Names to keep an eye on: Easy… the Jazz youngsters, and the Flash-sters if you follow them a bit. No one else. The Jazz already have 14 players under contract (CJ would be 15). KOC likes having a roster spot open, just in case. So the chances of anyone on the squad that isn’t already on the team making the team is near 0, saving a trade or a buy-out (or 2 or 3).

Kevin Kruger… Magic?   7 comments

It might not be as disappointing as this (and rightfully so… Kruger has never played for the Jazz), but it’s still a little disheartening. I mean… Kruger was down in Orem all year playing for the NBDL team. And now, he goes back to play in the summer league for Orlando… which he did last year & was the last cut in training camp.

And yet again, the Jazz brass elects to keep Jason Hart over someone else that easily fits the role of 3rd-string (at worst) PG… and fits it better (& at lower cost) than Hart. Plus… Kruger is a better shooter & a better passer. What more do you want in a J-Slow bench-warmer/back-up 2-guard? Ah… the stupidity of the “smart ones”. Refreshing at times, no?

Oh, and there’s free agency news… all over the web. And rumors plenty of them. Enjoy them… very few include the Jazz because we’re too busy finding ways to let Hart & No Knees & Flop blow games for us… and too busy finding ways to keep CJ on the bench all the time.

PS: Magic in the title doesn’t seem like the right word. “He’s a Magic.” It just doesn’t sound right. Kinda like Jazz, which is why I occasionally say type Jazz-ster. But Magic-ster doesn’t sound right either. Trickster? Help please.
