As the playoffs run on (and on, and on, and on…), the regular season awards are nearing completion. Today, the All-NBA First, Second & Third teams were announced. The Jazz had 2 recognitions… Deron on the All-NBA Second Team, and Booze on the All-NBA Third Team. Congrats to both of them!
Deron finished the regular season averaging 18.8 ppg and 10.5 apg. He made 50.7% of his shots, 39.5% of his long bombs and 80.3% of his free throws. He played in all 82 games, averaging 37:17 mpg. All of these stats (save his 3-point shooting percentage) are career highs. And he all but asserted himself as the leader of the Jazz… late in close games, he was the one that wanted the ball… he was the one that created for his teammates and himself. And he’s one of the few guys that’s shown up in the playoffs, though we have to expect more due to the lack of help he’s getting.
Booze played in 81 of the 82 games this season, getting 34:53 mpg. He averaged 21.1 ppg and 10.4 rpg, being a double-double threat every night. He shot 54.7% from the field and 73.8% from the FT line. Booze tied his career high in games played, and barely set a high for minutes played (by 11 seconds). His shooting percentage, rebounds & assists all dropped a touch. His ppg set a new high, and while his FT percentage jumped from last year, it’s still a couple of points below his career high marks. Unlike Deron though, he’s absolutely disappeared as of late, and it’s killing the Jazz in the playoffs.
Hopefully next year they can both make the First Team.
