Yeah, overtime in the preseason. No one likes that. The Jazz were losing before, got a lucky tie on a stupid technical, and then lost anyways. I watched a bit of the game (flipping between like 3 TV channels), so I don’t really have much to say.
- CJ tried his hand out at PG during parts of the game, and finished with 7 assists. But he was a miserable 3-10 from the field, and started off with a missed jumper that didn’t do anything to get him on J-Slow’s good side.
- Morris Almond was just 3-11 from the field before fouling out.
- Kyle Korver went 4-5 from the field, including 2-2 from downtown.
- Booze & Okur struggled early & often on defense (Okur was in early foul trouble) as Kenyon Martin absolutely dominated the Jazz inside.
- AK came off of the bench again.
- The Jazz seem to have no idea how to defend Linas Kleiza.
- Kosta Koufos was 5-7 from the field, and 1-1 from downtown. Impressive!
Tonight, the Jazz head to Champaign, Illinois to face the Bulls. Champaign, just FYI, is the hometown of the University of Illinois… Deron’s college hometown. Homecoming for him. Lucky for the Bulls & Jazz that Chicago is in the same state at Champaign. I mean, Hit-N-Run is also having a college homecoming today. But his Nuggets are “hosting” the Suns in New York. Explain that.
Not really a good thing, as I was hoping to see some more of Koufos tonight. And I’m sure I’m not the only one that was hoping that. Booze is still out, and AK-47 will get the start today in his place (after coming off of the bench against the Lakers).
Oh, and speaking of AK off the bench… he doesn’t seem to mind. I’m all for this… more on it later?
Well, a win is a win. Definitely. But in the preseason, that’s secondary. What’s important is how the team plays, how everyone looks, staying healthy, etc. Well, after game one, we can say… mission (mostly) accomplished.
Well, not completely. It took a bit of time. I mean, the shooting in the first quarter would’ve embarrassed even the villains at the end of a movie (you know what I’m talking about… 400 bad guys can’t hit the good guy despite firing 100 bullets/second, while the good guy nails all of them with 1 shot). Just plain ugly. But things got better. Quick thoughts (if you read insanely fast) on the game below.

Sure, it’s just the pre-season. But the NBA is finally back! And to start it off for the Jazz… a road trip versus the Lakers. The same team that ended the Jazz season last year. Of course, there will be differences between tonight’s game and the game that ended the Jazz playoff run. For example, the game is being played in Anaheim. And the Lakers have Andrew Bynum back after he missed the playoff series last year (and a lot more). And there’s no Jason Hart or Ronny Turiaf or the likes. And Booze is not playing either. Though there will be many who would try to convince you that that’s not a difference. (Zing!)
Sorry. It’s the first game of the (pre-)season… I shouldn’t be ripping on Booze. Yet. Anyhow, it’s time to check out the
new-look pretty-much-the-same Jazz as they begin the new season.
Previews also up at…
–The Cowhide Globe argues that not much has changed, completely against my view. Obviously they are wrong and I am right.
–SLC Dunk, home of probably the best gamethread system amongst Jazz bloggers (SBNation did well with that). BBJ wrote a ton… make sure to read it and give me a recap.
–Utah Jazz Review goes over things to look for. I’d agree, but given that it’s the first game of the pre-season, I’d just like to see them not look like total crap out there.
